Oracle ERP — including Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS), Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP and Oracle SCM Cloud — is widely used by Indian manufacturing, pharmaceutical and logistics companies for production planning, inventory management, quality control and order-to-cash processes. When these business events occur, labels need to print automatically with accurate data pulled directly from Oracle.
BarTender Automation Edition connects Oracle ERP to your label printers through multiple integration paths, ensuring every label carries accurate, Oracle-sourced data without manual re-entry. Infinite Solutions is an authorized BarTender partner in India — we design, license and implement Oracle–BarTender integrations across pharma, industrial manufacturing and logistics operations.
Why Label Printing Must Be Driven by Oracle Data
The risk of manual data entry in label printing is well understood in regulated industries. When a production batch is confirmed in Oracle and a worker manually types the batch number, expiry date and MRP into a label software, every label is a potential compliance incident. Incorrect expiry date on a pharmaceutical label, wrong GTIN on a despatch carton, incorrect MRP on a retail label — all of these are traced back to manual entry errors that Oracle–BarTender integration eliminates entirely.
The Oracle database holds the master data. BarTender reads from Oracle and prints from it. No manual entry, no mismatches, no compliance risk.
Oracle ERP Versions Supported
- Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) 11i and R12 — Still widely deployed in Indian manufacturing. BarTender connects via Oracle database ODBC or Oracle Forms output triggers.
- Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP / ERP Cloud — Modern cloud ERP. BarTender integrates via Oracle Business Events, Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) or REST API.
- Oracle SCM Cloud — Supply chain management. BarTender connects to inventory, warehouse management and shipping modules.
- Oracle WMS / Warehouse Management — BarTender Integration Platform monitors Oracle WMS events and prints picking, putaway and despatch labels automatically.
- Oracle NetSuite — Cloud ERP for mid-market. BarTender connects via NetSuite’s SuiteScript or saved search exports.
Four Integration Methods for Oracle + BarTender
Method 1 — Direct Oracle Database Connection (ODBC)
BarTender connects directly to Oracle Database using ODBC or Oracle’s native ODP.NET driver. Label templates in BarTender contain SQL queries that retrieve data from Oracle tables — inventory item master, batch master, order lines, delivery details — based on a scanned or entered key (material number, batch number, sales order number).
Workflow:
- Warehouse worker scans a material barcode or enters a batch number at a BarTender Print Station
- BarTender queries the Oracle database using the scanned key
- Relevant fields (item description, UOM, batch number, expiry date, GTIN, MRP) are retrieved from Oracle tables
- BarTender populates the label template with Oracle data
- Label prints to the designated TSC or Printronix printer
Oracle tables commonly queried: MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS_B (item master), MTL_LOT_NUMBERS (batch/lot details), OE_ORDER_LINES_ALL (order lines), WSH_DELIVERY_DETAILS (delivery details), MTL_MATERIAL_TRANSACTIONS (inventory transactions).
Best for: Oracle EBS R12 environments. Read-only database access is sufficient. No Oracle development required. Most commonly deployed approach for Indian Oracle EBS users.
Method 2 — Oracle Output Files via BarTender Integration Platform
Oracle ERP can be configured to write output files (text, XML, CSV) to a network folder when specific business events occur — goods receipt, production completion, despatch document creation. BarTender’s Integration Platform (BIP) monitors designated folders and fires print jobs when new files arrive.
Workflow:
- Oracle business event fires (e.g. lot confirmation in WIP, goods receipt in PO module)
- Oracle Concurrent Request writes a formatted output file to a network share
- BIP detects the new file within seconds
- BIP parses the file fields and maps them to BarTender label template data sources
- BarTender prints the correct label to the designated printer
Best for: Operations where the Oracle DBA team can configure concurrent programs and output definitions. The BarTender side requires minimal technical expertise once the output format is defined. Commonly used for goods receipt and production order label printing in Indian manufacturing.
Method 3 — Oracle Business Events and Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC)
Oracle Fusion Cloud and Oracle EBS both support Business Events — structured notifications raised when specific Oracle transactions occur. Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) can subscribe to these events and call BarTender’s REST API to trigger label printing.
Workflow:
- Oracle Fusion event fires (e.g. PO receipt confirmation, shipment creation)
- Oracle Integration Cloud receives the event payload via subscription
- OIC orchestration flow extracts the relevant data fields from the payload
- OIC makes a REST API call to BarTender Automation’s print server
- BarTender validates the data, selects the correct label template and prints
Best for: Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP implementations. Modern, event-driven architecture. No file-based intermediaries. Full end-to-end audit trail in both Oracle and BarTender.
Method 4 — Oracle NetSuite via Saved Search Export or SuiteScript
Oracle NetSuite does not expose a direct database connection to external tools, but BarTender can integrate with NetSuite through two approaches:
- Saved Search Export: A scheduled NetSuite saved search exports records to a CSV file at defined intervals. BIP monitors the folder and prints labels when new records appear.
- SuiteScript REST Call: A NetSuite SuiteScript (JavaScript) makes a REST API call to BarTender’s print server when a transaction is saved (item receipt, assembly build, shipment).
Best for: Mid-market Indian companies on Oracle NetSuite. The SuiteScript approach provides real-time automated printing; the saved search approach is simpler to implement.
Key Oracle ERP Events and Label Outputs
| Oracle Module & Transaction | Label Printed | Integration Method |
|---|---|---|
| WIP — Lot Completion / Job Completion | Batch label, production WIP label | Output file → BIP or database query |
| Purchasing — PO Receipt (MIGO equivalent) | Goods received label, putaway label | Output file → BIP or database poll |
| Shipping — Pick Confirm / Ship Confirm | Carton label, pallet label, GS1-128 shipping label | Database query or output file → BIP |
| Inventory — Miscellaneous Receipt | Item label, bin label | Database query via Print Station |
| Quality — Inspection Result (QA release) | Released batch sticker, quarantine release label | REST API via OIC or output file |
| Oracle WMS — Putaway / Transfer | Location label, carton label | BIP integration with Oracle WMS events |
| Order Management — Despatch | Customer address label, GS1 delivery label | Output file → BIP |
Indian Industry Applications
Pharmaceutical (Oracle + BarTender + Printronix T6000e)
CDSCO-compliant batch labelling from Oracle WIP lot completion events. BarTender Enterprise retrieves batch number, manufacturing date, expiry date, GS1 DataMatrix code and MRP from Oracle, populates locked label templates and prints to Printronix T6000e printers with ODV-2D barcode verification. Every print event is logged with the Oracle batch number, making the audit trail complete for regulatory inspection.
Industrial Manufacturing (Oracle EBS + BarTender + TSC)
Component labels, WIP tracking labels and finished goods labels printed from Oracle WIP job completions. BarTender ODBC connection to Oracle EBS retrieves job details and routes print jobs to the correct TSC TH340 printer at the relevant workstation based on Oracle plant/department assignments.
Logistics and 3PL (Oracle SCM + BarTender)
GS1-128 carton and pallet labels printed from Oracle shipping transactions. Customer-specific label formats selected automatically based on Oracle sold-to party. Printronix T8000 printers handle high-volume 6-inch and 8-inch carton labels at despatch dock speed.
