TSC TX210, TX310 or TX610? Buying and Owner Guide to TSC TX Desktop Printers

Quick answer: The TX range is TSC's high-performance 4-inch desktop printer for buyers who have outgrown entry models. Choose the TX210 when you need speed (203 dpi at up to 8 inches per second), the TX310 for sharper product labels at 300 dpi, and the TX610 only when labels are tiny enough to need 600 dpi. All three print with or without a ribbon, take 300 m ribbons and share the same memory and ports.

When a TX printer makes sense

A TX is worth the step up from an entry desktop printer if one of these is true for you: you print hundreds of shipping labels in a rush every afternoon, your labels carry small logos and 2D codes, or you label electronic parts and jewellery so small that ordinary resolution blurs them. TSC builds the TX around a double-wall clamshell, an ADF hinge and an industrial-grade hybrid motor, which keeps the media path steady and drives a full 300 m ribbon. If, instead, you run labels nonstop across several shifts, an industrial printer from the TSC industrial range is the better long-term buy.

Which model should you buy?

Each cell shows how well a model suits that job, based on its resolution, speed and label length.

Job TX210 (203 dpi) TX310 (300 dpi) TX610 (600 dpi)
High-volume 4x6 courier labels Best: up to 8 ips Works: up to 6 ips Not ideal: 4 ips and 100-inch label limit

LED panel or colour LCD?

Each model comes in two versions. The standard version has an LED panel with eight large status icons and one feed/pause button. The display version adds a 3.5-inch colour LCD (320 x 240 pixels) whose viewing angle you can adjust, six operation buttons and a standard real-time clock, which is a dealer option on the LED version. Pick the LCD if staff will print stored formats without a PC, or if you want clear on-screen messages rather than icon codes. It is also slightly heavier: 4.08 kg against 3.75 kg.

Setting it up

Space and power

Allow roughly 226 mm width and 332 mm depth on the desk, plus room for the clamshell to open. The TX uses an external universal power supply that accepts AC 100 to 240 V.

Loading media

  • The holder centres the roll automatically. Drop in an outside-wound roll up to 127 mm (5 inches) across, on a 1-inch or 1.5-inch core.
  • Usable media runs from 19 mm to 112 mm wide and from 0.055 mm to 0.254 mm thick, which covers thick tags as well as thin labels. Labels can be as short as 3 mm.
  • Continuous, die-cut, black mark, fan-fold and notched stock are all supported.

Loading the ribbon

  • The TX takes ribbons up to 300 m long, with a maximum outer diameter of 67 mm, on a 1-inch core, ink coated on the outside.
  • Ribbon width can be 40 mm to 110 mm. Keep it a few millimetres wider than the label.
  • An improved ribbon stop mechanism prevents the ribbon from unwinding when the top cover is opened, so it stays tight between jobs.

Calibrate and tune

Run media calibration whenever you change label type. In TSC Console, open Functions, then Printer Configuration, then Calibration. The same area lets you set speed and density. The gap sensor handles die-cut labels, and the black-mark sensor can be moved to line up with the mark on your stock. For thick tags or synthetic labels, use the heat line adjustment to move the printhead's burn line to suit the media. This is a real advantage on the TX610, where small misalignments show up clearly.

Software and integration

TSC offers BarTender UltraLite free, and full editions are in our label design software range. The TSPL-EZD language also accepts EPL, ZPL, ZPL II and DPL, so many existing formats print as they are. Each TX also has a microSD slot for up to 32 GB of extra Flash, useful for fonts and stored formats.

Running costs and consumables

  • Use the full 300 m ribbon. Long ribbons on a 1-inch core mean fewer stops and a lower cost per label.
  • Choose ribbon by label: wax for paper, wax-resin for coated paper and some synthetics, resin for polyester, chemicals and heat. Shop thermal transfer ribbons and labels and stickers.
  • Skip the ribbon for courier labels. The TX also prints direct thermal, so use e-commerce shipping labels without a ribbon.
  • Buy consumables in volume. Ask for a bulk quote if you use several ribbons and label rolls a month.

Printhead care and replacement

TX printers include TPH Care, a self-diagnostic that scans the printhead and detects bad dots in real time. That gives you early warning before a damaged head prints barcodes that will not scan. When replacement is due, order the genuine part:

Printer Genuine printhead Warranty
TX200, TX210 PH-TX200-0001, 203 dpi 1 year or 25 km, whichever is earlier
TX300, TX310 PH-TX200-0002, 300 dpi 1 year or 25 km, whichever is earlier
TX600, TX610 600 dpi head on request Ask via spares enquiry

White dots, scratches and physical damage are not covered under head warranty. A 600 dpi head is especially sensitive to dust and grit, so keep the cover closed and clean the head gently when you change ribbons. More genuine parts are in TSC genuine printheads.

Common problems and fixes

  • Ribbon rewind spindle not turning: restart the printer. If that fails, reload the rewind spindle and check it faces the correct way.
  • Printer not reachable over Ethernet: check the cable is firmly connected and the port lights are flashing.
  • Labels slip or print off-position: recalibrate, and adjust the black-mark sensor if your stock has a printed mark.
  • Light print on thick tags: raise density, slow down, and fine-tune the heat line adjustment.
  • TPH Care reports bad dots: clean the head first; if the warning stays, plan a head replacement.

Managing several TX printers

With built-in Ethernet or the Wi-Fi option, TX printers work with TSC Console and SOTI Connect (licence required) for remote setup and monitoring. TSC Console Web can update firmware remotely and show printhead mileage, but it needs a network link, not USB. For repairs, visit our TSC service centre in Delhi.

Warranty and cover options

New printers ship with the standard manufacturer's warranty against manufacturing defects. Longer cover can only be bought at the time you buy the printer. You can choose a 1-year extended warranty, or a comprehensive warranty for 3 or 5 years, such as the 5-year Comprehensive Care Pack. There is no 1-year comprehensive option, and comprehensive cover can't be added later. The comprehensive warranty takes the place of the standard warranty, and both run together from the printer's invoice date. So a 5-year plan means 5 years in total, not 1 + 5. Once cover ends, ask us about an AMC.

Frequently asked questions

Is the TX610 worth it if I only print shipping labels?

No. The TX610 runs at up to 4 inches per second and limits label length to 100 inches. For courier labels, the 203 dpi TX210 at up to 8 inches per second is faster and better value.

What does TPH Care do on a TSC TX printer?

TPH Care is a self-diagnostic that scans the printhead and detects bad dots in real time, warning you before damaged elements cause unreadable barcodes.

Can the TX print on thick tags?

Yes. The TX accepts media up to 0.254 mm thick, and its heat line adjustment lets you tune the printhead position for different media types.

Should I buy the LED or the colour LCD version?

The LED version suits PC-driven printing. The colour LCD version adds a 3.5-inch screen, six buttons and a standard real-time clock, which helps with standalone printing and on-screen setup.

Which printhead fits the TX310?

The TX300 and TX310 use genuine TSC printhead part PH-TX200-0002 at 300 dpi. The TX200 and TX210 use part PH-TX200-0001 at 203 dpi.

How much ribbon does a TX printer hold?

Up to 300 m of outside-coated ribbon on a 1-inch core, with a maximum roll diameter of 67 mm and widths from 40 mm to 110 mm.

Can I expand the TX printer's memory?

Yes. Every TX model has 128 MB Flash and 128 MB SDRAM, plus a microSD card reader that adds up to 32 GB of Flash for fonts, graphics and stored formats.
